SUMMARY:Hindustani Classical Vocal by Mitali Bhawmik
DESCRIPTION:Artist bio: Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik started her musical training at a very early age from Sri Ajit Dutta\, followed by extensive training from Late Shree Biren Phukan in Guahati\, Assam. Subsequently she received training from Srimati Meera Banerjee\, the noted Kolkata-based vocalist. Since 1984\, Mitali was under the tutelage of late Padmabhushan Pandit V. G. Jog\, the famous violin maestro. Pandit Jog’s vast and extensive experience in the different musical styles and traditions has helped Mitali ji to blend the best of different gharanas in her music\, in contrast to sticking to a single traditional gharana style. This has been the essence of Pandit Jog’s philosophy in music and training methodology. Currently Mitali ji is expanding her repertoire in semi-classical (Thumri\, Dadra\, Kajri\, Chaiti\, Hori\, etc.) music from Smt. Dahlia Rahut\, a senior disciple of Smt. Girija Devi. She has performed in various prestigious venues in North America\, Europe and India and is also the director of Ethnomedia Music Studio\, where she trains students of music. \nAccompanying will be Melbourne’s very own Pandurang Toravi ji on tabla\, and Prasad Karve ji on Harmonium. \n  \nTickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hindustani-classical-vocal-by-mitali-bhawmik-tickets-1470165286949

It is indeed a very rare skill in the field of Hindustani music. He hails from Benaras and comes from a traditional family of musicians of the renowned Benaras Gharana. He preserves\, exercises and performs the old traditional music and arts of India\, which has been retained with his family for many generations. He was groomed by his grandfather\, Pt. It is said that the style of the family is adopted by most of the top flute players in the country\, including Pt. He moved to Delhi from Varanasi with his family\, which enabled him to learn from two maestros of Rampur Sehaswan Gharana who were Padmashree Ustad Hafeez Ahmed Khan and Ustad Sarfaraz Hussain Khan. \nFelicitated with a Grammy Award certificate in 2004\, Rajendra Prasanna became an international personality. Bundi Maharaj\, who with his talent had taken Solo to its Zenith in Indian classical music & his Grandfather Pt. Damodar Mishra\, who did the same in vocal music with his superb voice & excellent presentation of Ragas. \nThe big break in his career as a tabla Player was when he got a chance to accompany Padamvibhushan Pt.
